Put your loved one’s care in trusting hands By Jillian Chandler
Owners Brandt and Melissa Weaver are dedicated to doing the right thing, no matter the cost. At AAging Better In-Home Care, the Weavers focus on the clients and caregivers—rather than profit.
“We would much rather see individuals happy, healthy and comfortable instead of lonely and ailing in a facility where statistics have shown a rapid decline in their health and mental status,” states Brandt. “We watched the decline of my grandmother in a facility and saw the level of care she was not receiving and knew we needed to make a difference within our community.”
Brandt’s parents, Bruce and Charlene, founded AAging Better In-Home Care in 2001, with a focus on providing better care for the elderly, allowing them to live a longer, better quality of life at home. Prior to purchasing the business in 2020 from his parents, Brandt was the man behind the scenes working in the finance department and building the IT infrastructure of AAging Better. He joined the company more than two decades ago, and according to his wife Melissa, “His personal drive for this business is to ensure the aging population has the care needed and that professional care aides have a voice in today’s field. Doing the right thing is number one on his priority list, next to his family and his dogs.”
As for Melissa, who co-owns the business with Brandt, she has been a certified pharmacy technician since 2007 and has a background in management. She is currently completing her last year of school to receive her bachelor’s degree as a respiratory therapist.
“Her personal drive focuses on end-of-life care including oncology and hospice, and ensuring people maintain their dignity while receiving the best care possible during the hardest time of their life,” shares Brandt. “In addition, Melissa has a passion for family, photography, travel, plants and animals.”
At AAging Better, it is their mission to offer personal care services to their clients, in their own homes, which allows folks the opportunity to age in place in their space of personal comfort. These services include bathing and dressing assistance, meal prep, ambulatory services, housekeeping, medication reminders and transportation—as well as companionship.
“We focus on the clients and caregivers. We are also the only agency that answers our phones 24/7 with one of our office staff members—we do not source after-hours or weekend calls to an answering service or a call center,” Brandt affirms.
When it comes to what the couple finds most rewarding about the work they do, Brandt says, “Knowing we are there to help the most vulnerable population.”
